Why unfair?
Posted: 2002/12/11 By: Jinwol (Views:1388)
I agree the SOFA is unfair..."
Why, exactly, is it unfair? Basically the same provisions in the Korea-US SOFA are in the Korea-Tajikistan SOFA.
Why should the US turn over their fighting forces to foreign courts for things they were ordered to do in the line of duty? In this case there would be no chance of a fair trial in Korean courts, which have a history of being kangaroo. Note the current President of Korea was sentenced to death by a Korean court not all that long ago. Also note an American soldier was convicted of assault in 1994 by a Korean court for patting his wife's bum on the subway. Revising the SOFA, in the Korean context, means throwing US soldiers to the Hanchonyon mob on even the most frivolous charges. That's why the pro-North Korean student organizations are agitating for it.
Anyway... why do you feel it's unfair?
