We Koreans are screwing up the demand-and-supply of ESL teachers.
I'm running my school (hakwon) and doing recruiting business as well.
I'd like talk about my thought I'm feeling while doing my businesses.
You know only native speakers are prospering in these down times; they receive over 2.0 mil won salary per month with housing and vacations which only few Korean employees are affordable nowadays.
I'm not going to discuss about the necessity of early English education but to discuss about the attitude to the foreigners of hakwons and agencies in Korea.
The skyrocketing salaries and benefits for the foreigners are, I think, caused most by hakwons and agencies.
We must fix the admiring look at the foreigners just only s/he has colored hair.
I'd like to believe there will be the times when Korean teachers in U.S are treated like the prospering foreign teachers here someday. Agencies demand unbearable commissions from employers, employers demand unbearable registration fees from the students' parents.
In the long run all of the country becomes demanding high costs. Let's stop doing this.
You know, in Seoul, they request 1.6 mil wons of commissions for just introducing a native speaker. I'd like to ask them (agencies) what the hell they are doing; what the great jobs they're doing demand 1.6 mil wons' cost for introducing an English teacher?
I would say that our attitude to the foreigners should be really changed.
If anybody has opposite ideas, reply to my message please.
Let's see how much believable his or her thinking is. |
