Hongdae and Sinchon areas of Seoul
No way!
I cannot agree with this:
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1018.html
this website reads like this
-----
U.S. citizens and their families, especially young adults, are advised to exercise prudence and caution when visiting the Hongdae and Sinchon areas of Seoul. These areas, where many night clubs are located, have occasionally been the sites of bar or street fights and harassment involving Westerners.

Hardcore!
Hardcore!
A South Korean actress named Ok So-ri admitted to an affair with a singer and now her husband is demanding that she be jailed.
The crazy thing is that there's a law in the country's book that could make hubby's wish a reality!
She could go to jail for up to two years!!
The actress has called for the law to be over turned but on Wednesday, prosecutors filed motions in support of her jilted husband.

What Would Obama Say?
AT the Radisson Hotel in Nashua, N.H., Jon Favreau sipped Diet Coke and munched on carrot sticks and crackers to pass the time. His boss, Senator Barack Obama, wandered in and out of the room.
Finally, results from the New Hampshire Democratic primary started coming in, surprising everyone. Hillary Clinton was pulling past Senator Obama, who had won the Iowa caucuses only five days earlier.

My (some of my) struggles in Korea
I was in Yeongju. I went there in 2007-2008 and was facing the same shady Korean politics as usual where they get rid of you before the contract is done to make you pay the airfare to get back to your home country. I learned my lesson and will never go ther again. They do not care about the workers there. You are just some fool trying to make money and you end up spending a fortune and being treated like garbage. If you have any color in your skin beware!

Korea Looks to Emulate Japan's Nobel Prize-winning Scientists
Japan had the honor of seeing four of its citizens win this year's Nobel prizes in Physics and Chemistry. As a result, 13 Japanese people have won the Nobel Prize in science. In contrast, no Korean has ever won a Nobel Prize in science. Why are we lagging behind Japan by a score of 13 to 0?

What Is a Housewife's Labor Worth?
The Korean Women's Development Institute last Wednesday began a program to evaluate the value of full-time housewives' labor realistically by launching a banner campaign to calculate the annual salaries for full-time housewives on its website (www.kwdi.re.kr). The program evaluates the daily value of housewives' labor in 37 categories, such as meal preparation, laundry, cleaning, shopping, and taking care of children or parents or in-laws, and calculates it as monthly pay.. -by tom_pattz

The notion of Caucasian derives simply from those people who live West of the Causus mountain range in Russia. Europe is in effect part of Asia, but racially certainly not.

Another matter I want to clear up.(Eng/Kor)
Firstly, I love most Korean people but...
I find it deeply offensive when Korean people try to classify people according to race.
If such people knew anything about what makes a person unique, you would never do this.
National identity has NOTHING to do with who or what you are.

This just in: Kevin Gesler found dead
The news just broke: Kevin Gesler was found hanged from back porch with his cock trapped inside a bottle of coors lite. Apparently he didn't use enough KY Jelly. He died after passing out trying to get the bottle off his little poker. What a horrible way to die! Hi Janice,
I know the institute you are talking about. I am very sorry to hear this about them. I worked there for one year and I feel they did not treat me well, ultimately. However, not in this way. Can I give you a phone number to contact, if you are stranded in Yeongju. Believe me - there are GOOD people in Yeongju, so much so that despite my experience, I will be returning. one more thing...I posted this as a reply to an old post
One more thing. I heard how Austria, when part of the Holy Roman Empire under the last of those familiies (Was it the Hapsburg's?), not long before WW1, ran the nation under the Catholic social order, but allowed the Jews, Muslims and other Christians to worship freely. They got along. They soon wanted to be a democracy, however, like the other European nations, so they sent their leader packing. Soon after, they started getting on each others' nerves.

Jewish Americans
The writer is probably a Jewish American or Jewish Canadian; they love bashing Korea and looking down on Koreans. Baguio's great but check it out carefully
The beautiful mountain city of Baguio in the Philippines lures thousands of ESL students every year. It's inexpensive to live there and tuition costs are also low compared to Europe and North America. However, because the pay for teachers is so low, between $2 and $4 an hour, it's hard to attract native speakers. Many schools get by with older retired men married to Filipinas who happen to live there and need something to occupy them.
