Horrible day at the office (Eng/Kor)

Please forgive this whining ...but.... Today I was teaching my 3rd year junior high students and one of my more smartass students started waving a post card. Now this kid is a pain in the ass most of the time. I figured it was one of the pop star divas they have plastered all over their desks. As usual I .. -by jade

A Walk On The Wild Side (Eng/Kor)

The Taewha river flows thru Ulsan. Although there are a few polluted tributaries that still run with lifeless black water, the main river has become remarkably clean. Most days it is possible to stand in the middle of any bridge and look down into clear water and see fish and turtles. The turtles .. -by korean hiker

To all you complainers out there....(Eng/Kor)

One thing I have notices about the truth: There are 3 sides to every story, yours, mine, and the truth. Ever look at the color grey? Do you see black in it, or do you see white? Do you see a tinge of blue, or perhaps some yellow? When it is raining, do you complain that you forgot your umbrella, or do you real.. -by Joanne Aronson

slagging korea (Eng/Kor)

I often wonder why people slag Korea so vehemently. I really like it over there. The weather is not too bad. There is really no street crime to speak of. The food is not half bad. The people, although sometimes abrasive and annoying, are ok. Harmless. There's only one terrible thing about Korea: TEACHI.. -by bill

this may be true (Eng/Kor)

this was found on the net and was also published in the 'stars and stripes' military newspaper. To everyone (Korean and American alike): I was the driver of the vehicle immediately before the one that struck those two poor girls. I can tell you that the people involved in the accidedent were very sorr.. -by bong pal

This is the primary reason hakwons suck. (Eng/Kor)

It's because of the typical Korean lack of organization, poor implementations of ill-fated, high-and-mighty ideas, general lack of foresight and vision and the absence of any information-sharing standards between management and staff, parents and teachers, students and parents. Koreans can't organize a picnic.. -by POed

My big picutre....... (Eng/Kor)

I've been reading alot of the posts on this board, having just discovered it the other day. Initially I started because I was in a futile rage at having been wrist-slapped again at my hogwon. It's hard, sometimes, to work with people who don't speak your language. After reading some of the posts though, esp.. -by Jocelynn

There is too much hate in this forum! (Eng/Kor)

Got this from another site. Enjoy. Having lived and worked in Korea for one year, and having been lucky enough to have had an experience that was 95% positive (but not quite 99), I returned home six months ago and recently developed a longing to rediscover some Korean culture. I miss the food, the people, .. -by Cockasian

Concerned For Those That Hate Korea (Eng/Kor)

I'm Korean-American (US Citizen)... I use to look at this site while back when I thought about teaching English in Korea for the summer and haven't been on this site for about 2 years... I see it's still the same'ole complaints about the same damn thing and some of you are the same people from two years ago..... -by santaria

Interesting comments about divorce in Korea by K-female

I'm online chatting with a Korean female friend. We used to date, but stopped because we had no *spark*, but remained friends. We often chat online about different people we date, etc. Yesterday we started chatting about the whole ES issue, and she went off on a tangent about divorce in Korea. She said tha.. -by timothy collins

Narrow-Minded Koreans

You show how truly narrow-minded you are when you insult me by claiming that one would never say bad things about the country they came from. If you are having money problems at your business, that is the owner's problem, not the teachers. You need to learn how to manage a business better. Forgotten phonics and fraudulent faculty (Eng/Kor)

Yes, I agree with a lot of what you say- Let me give you 2 reasons why students don't learn English in Korea regardless of how much the parents pay. 1) Phonics and why Korean parents ignore it. I have a friend that is a teacher in Yeoksamdong and he pushed and pushed the hokwon to make a special phonics c.. -by sashateacher

Korean unification

Wanting it doesn't make it so View Observer, 2005/05/31 18:24 After watching the fall of the Berlin Wall, the reunification of Germany, and the reintegration of Eastern Europe into the EU, it is understandable that Koreans became envious and wanted to enjoy the same fate. Certainly the division of .. -by Dr Hwang

Korean Americans and Korean Canadians can't speak English? Give...(Eng/Kor)

Korean Americans and Korean Canadians can't speak English? Give me a break.... I'm Korean American and I've been teaching in Korea for 4 years. I've heard stories about institutes that treat K-A/C differently and that look exclusively for white faces. For school that do that, you're making a big mistake. .. -by John

English-speaking kids and unqualified, native-speaker English teacher (Eng/Kor)

Nowadays, Korean people are going crazy about speaking English like a native speaker. Korean mothers, particularly, are going even crazier about making their children speak English like a native speaker even before they learn to speak their native Korean language right. I often get calls from so-called phone-E.. -by Roger Soh

본토발음에 목을 매는 분들에게 (Kor/Eng)

To the Koreans who are going to die to imitate the native pronunciations... I lived in the States about 10 years and now work in the ESL industry. Written vs. Spoken English

외국인수급 우리나라가 망칩니다 (Kor/Eng).

Hey you! (Eng/Kor)

Why don't you go home if you are not happy here. No body is begging you to stay here. You don't know anything about it. The avarage salary Koreans earn is 1,360,000 in 2001. That's without housing, airfare and etc! The director has to pay for the rent of the school, house, airfare, advertising fee, other st.. -by Sunkun

Korean English Institute employers are a joke. (Eng/Kor)

Korean English Institute employers are a joke. They could never survive, if there were schools owned and operated by foreigners. There should be a law preventing Korean business owners from owning English institutes. They simply leave parents with the illusion that they are teaching their children Engl.. -by Michael Richards

The `Daechidong education city' phenomenon and associated hype (Eng/Kor)

Having read some of the posts on this board I feel I must add my 2 cents worth regarding the cons that Korean parents believe. Seeing as how Korean parents are spending more on education than ever before we should really take some time to examine how hype is wasting peoples precious time and money. The con.. -by batfink returns

why are you people so angry

1. Yes, Koreans are and can seem quite rude, out of order and too honest at times but hey, that's how humans are. 한국 원장들, 모두 무지 하지 않습니다 (Kor/Eng).

I would say that not all the Korean bosses are stupid. You're right. I think it's true that current situations cannot be fixed without fundamental revolution in Koreans’ thinking. Superficial To The Max (Eng/Kor)

South Korea is much worse than Canada and the U.S. with respect to the problems you brought up in your very superficial post, and some well known South Koreans will admit it such as the free lance writer who pens the Seoul Searcher column for The Korea Herald English language newspaper. In fact, this guy is ex.. -by Fall Guy's Friend

KH article - Korea tries to imitate Hollywood!

Thought this article was interesting. The KH writer (Seoul Searcher) blasts the Korean penchant for imitation rather than creation. I also wonder what those who are hatching this "Hallyuwood" plot are thinking when they invite Japan/China to get involved. If it looks like it will work, those 2 nations will .. -by all hail free speech

Response to Kim's 'Isn't that strange' (Eng/Kor)

Advice...

I talked to a few people re your friends dilemma and surprisingly, one thing that came out was that to a great extent, it depends on which imm' office your friend goes to, to be harassed/interrogated. The second thing is that there's a fishy pattern involving imm' that your friend needs to look at SERIOUSLY. .. -by S.T.P.

USFK out of Korea! (Eng/Kor)

All this talk about the deaths of those two girls has got me thinking. Why is the US in Korea? Does the United States get an economic or strategic military advantage by stationing troops here?
